Re: Why I carry, even in the house

It can be a mistake not to answer a door in some fashion if only to tersely ask who it is through the locked door (while armed of course). My sister in law found that out when she was 8 months pregnant. She did not answer the door when she saw through the peep hole it was two strange men. She thought they had left when she heard them breaking in the back door. They thought no one was home. She was unarmed and hid in the clothes hamper of the master bath with the phone. She frantically called 911. It was a hair raising wait for the police to come while she listened to the burglars ransacking the house room by room. They were actually in the master bedroom when the cops got there and announced themselves. The scum made haste out the back, but they got caught :evil2:
They told the police they would not have come in if they had known someone was home.
We thought sure that baby would be born with it's hair standing on end
Good Lord!!!! That had to be terrifying for her. Thank goodness she is alright!!!

Something happened the other night that made me think about this thread. My son, daughter and her husband were at the house around 8:30 at night. We were cooking some steaks and talking when the doorbell rang. we were not expecting guests. My daughter, being the friendly one of us all, jumps up and starts heading towards the door. I immediately give her the whoa command and her husband stands up to get the door before she does. I put my hand gun in the back of my trousers and get to the door about the same time as he does. Turns out it was a group of adorable little girls Christmas caroling for the needy. They had a sign asking for canned goods. All ended well except that I had to spend the rest of the evening taking shots from my daughter about wanting to blast Christmas carolers... :smilelol5: :totap:

Re: Why I carry, even in the house

I don't carry around the hose because I would look stupid with a holster on over my boxer shorts. I no longer have young ones around the house so I have a loaded gun nearby, no matter which room I am in. Yep...even the toilet. I never answer the door without a weapon in my hand or tucked into the back of the blue jeans I throw on to answer the door.

Something to consider. If a person kicks in your door and puts the bums rush on your family, you could probably grab the gun off the end table quicker than you could draw from a sitting position anyway.
