Re: Weird electrical issues at my home!
I have had the same issue on several claims. The first fifteen years I owned my home the deductible was 1000 dollars. Then it became impossible to find insurance with a deductible like this. Now my deductible is 2% of my home value. I would darn near have to be hit by a tornado to ever use my insurance. That is what happens when the whole neighborhood replaces their shingles every time we have a hail storm. I have neighbors who used insurance to replace shingles that were already damaged before the storm but roofing companies were more than happy to run a scam to get roofing work. In the end we all pay for the folks who "get over" on the insurance companies.puma guy wrote: ↑Thu Jan 23, 2020 5:10 pm Update: Cable guy is here. Found junction on main line fried. Switched our whip to a new port. (luckily the whip wasn't fried) Replacing all three cable boxes and the internet Modem/router. The HDMI connection on the den TV we used for cable was fried, so cable guy disconnected the DVD and use that HDMI port for the cable box. That's not a problem. 50" TV in B/R is fried, but gets a new box that I'll have to set up when I get a new TV. TV in guest B/R OK and gets a new box. Disposal fried, cordless phone base fried, ceiling fan in our B/R only runs on high speed and the remote will not turn it off or alter speed. All other electrical devices working, the fire place damper still functions and all unused outlets will be double sealed with festive colored electrical tape and silver duct/duck tape.
EDITED to add: My deductible is more than the replacement cost of the damaged items.

Re: Weird electrical issues at my home!
Lightning does not even have to hit your house to destroy appliances and TV sets. It can hit anywhere close and take out your stuff.

I wouldn't suggest anything beyond a person's skill level, that could be dangerous.
I suspect you have an electrical leak and need to put duct tape over all outlets that are unused so the electricity stops leaking out.
Leaky electrical probably violates Ohm's Law, and if so, could be an impeachable offense.
That was funny.

But this indicator light is usually in the bathroom or laundry room. If you have a light in another room, you might notice it sooner.cirus wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 3:42 pmI'll just going by 30 years in the electrical field and the NEC. The gfci has a light on it that shows red when it's tripped.Mel wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 3:38 pmSometimes this is done intentionally as an alert that the GFCI has tripped.
I've not done this myself, but I've seen it done.
[/quote]Yeah I've seen all kinds of weird stuff done.

The point is that it has nothing to do with what is happening as described by the OP. LOL... the OP has suffered a lightning damage loss. Any damaged appliances are usually covered by ones home owners insurance.

Re: Weird electrical issues at my home!
If something were wired incorrectly, the problem would have been there all along.cirus wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 2:41 pmIf your capable take the gfci out and have a look. If there is a wire on the " load " side take it out and place it on the " line " side with the other romex. Nothing should be on the load side of the gfci except what needs protecting.ELB wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 2:35 pmYup, BTDT.

We are always involved because often the lightning strike will take out circuit boards in the heat and/or the outdoor unit of the HVAC system. Most of the time folks will have electrical appliances knocked out as well. Sometimes it will be just one TV out of three or random light fixtures. Anything with a circuit board is particularly vulnerable. It sounds to me like you either had a close by lightning strike or maybe even a direct hit. But it does sound like lightning damage. Your homeowners should cover almost all affected appliances.
Yep. This is exactly what I was speaking of. There is no pattern to it. Just dumb luck.Mel wrote: ↑Wed Jan 22, 2020 12:46 pm Mother Nature doesn't follow electrical "rules". We had a lightning strike about 35 years ago and many weird things happened. One ceiling fan had "high" only. One cordless phone would work but could not dial out. One VCR, blown fuse. One TV, horizontal output diode blown. Yard lights would not turn off. Weather station wiped out completely. Air compressor switch welded in "on" position. None of these were on a common circuit.
