Re: Gun Safe for Car

That safe in the console is pretty cool.

Just a reminder for everyone...I have a Secure Vault bolted down under the back truck seat and I learned this lesson last night: I went to a restaurant to have dinner, and because I was likely to have a margarita I locked up my gun in the safe. When I returned home the safe would not open using the combination. The mechanism was trying to open but only made a dull clunk noise.

After an hour of monkeying with the safe I finally got it open to find the grease on the latch was gummy and dry. The gummy grease was preventing smooth operation of the opener. The only thing I could think of is the TX heat caused faster than normal evaporation on the grease, leaving the solids and reducing the lubricating ability.

A quick clean up job and the application of some CLP Breakfree has solved the issue as the safe is running great today.

Lesson learned: Double check your safe's mechanical parts to insure smooth operation, so the safe opens quickly in cases of emergency.
