Calexico - Coyoacan
If there was a band that just exuded the 'American southwest', Calexico is it. This song is awesome.

Re: One song that "speaks" to you
I've been rocking these two a lot lately.
The Motet - Supernova. Such a fun, toe-tapping tune.

TAUK - Rainwalk. A real laid back instrumental.

Re: One song that "speaks" to you
I had forgotten about this thread! Lots of good music here. Time for me to catch up.
Joey Dosik - Running Away
If you dig soulful ballads, you might like this one
Cory Wong and The Green Screen Band
Good, funky, toe tapping music.
Vulfpeck
I love everything by these guys. So funky, so good.

Re: One song that "speaks" to you
and one more.
Nickel Creek - The Smoothie Song (with Rob Trujillo, bassist from Metallica, making an appearance). Great instrumental track...it's gotten a lot of repeats here.

Sara Watkins - The Ward Accord
a simple track, but it's the simple ones that are usually the most beautiful.

Re: One song that "speaks" to you
One band that I've been enamored with over the past 8 years or so is Calexico. When I discovered them, it was if they had created the perfect music for me. Being a fan of the desert, and the southwest US, there really wasn't any music (aside from Ennio Morricone) that put those pictures in to music...until I found Calexico. The core of which is two guys from Tuscon, and they collaborate with Mariachi's, a few others from TN and Germany, and somehow it all works. They incorporated traditional Mexican music instrumentation and rhythm in to a sort of indie-Americana fusion of rock, country, pop, surf, etc. Here are a few of there tracks that I am quite fond of.
Quattro (Worlds Drift In)

Minas De Cobre

Wash

The Ride

Para (Off of their upcoming album...a little different than their past stuff, but it's real mellow and sounds great!)

Re: One song that "speaks" to you
a great Minnesota garage band from the 60's. The Gestures.

and I've always loved The Zombies.

and last, but not least...The Left Banke. My Mom told me about the time they came to her high school in Bed Sty Brooklyn, performed a few tracks, and were promptly arrested for marijuana possession.

It took me a bit, but the Avett Brothers grew on me and I like a lot of their stuff. Have you seen / heard the Punch Brothers?WildBill wrote:video here

No YouTube link, but here's the audio.
http://grooveshark.com/s/Booth+Love+w+J ... ekfm?src=5" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
This is a track by the band Umphrey's McGee. They are sort of a Prog Rock / Jam Band type. Sort of inline with moe. They have a TON of great tracks, but I'll always listen to this one. The live version blows away the studio version.
