In general, you want area's that have lot's of fields with sunflower or grain. I've been to Lufkin and it is a very forested area, which is not prime dove habitat. The further west you go, more into the plains/hill country area the better. We have so many dove in the DFW city area, it's sickening. I have some fields right by my house and the dove are in there by the thousand. They are really proliferating without any hunting pressure inside the city limit. I'm sure if you look in your Sunday classified ads, you are likely too see tons of ads for dove leases. Also check into your local mom & pop country store, and I'm sure someone would have posted some ads for leases.

Also know that after opening day, the dove get very skittish and start flying higher. We generally go opening weekend, and then wait a couple of weeks for them to calm down and go back. We always get plenty of shooting in.
