Yeah sorry, dude ... I do tend to go on ... :tiphat:
then you already fit right in :
Heheh ...

It's almost Chabbat here and I'm gonna try not to post here and be a good boy, but just lemme say that I love Texas, and can't wait to move there! Sure, the death penalty sucks :deadhorse: but I need to look beyond that, and I can't wait to get there and maybe go shootin' with some of y'all.

Then head to your forty-ninth state with a friend o' mine, and my Ruger Alaskan on my hip, and .... hey ...

*thread warp*

What shall I call my Kimber? I need a name for it. It has to be a woman's name, 'cos I love women so much (a little too much..). Any suggestions?

Glock 23 wrote:Although, I must comment, it appears in public the "C" word can be used alot more often without repercussions than the "N" word. I see a double standard.
The 'c' word is very commonly used in Britain and the Commonwealth as a ...well, almost as a term of endearment, bizarre though that might sound. An Australian friend with whom I chat regularly on MSN, will often hail me with an, 'oi, c***!'. Last week, I bought two bicycles but couldn't get them here in France, so bought them via plastic in the UK, lending my friend in London the price of his as he's pretty broke. So he was able to go into the shop and pick 'em up and is now using his, with mine sitting in his hallway. I can't get over there yet, so although I own a fantastic Dawes bicycle, I can't use it. When he sent me an e-mail recounting his first ride on his, I responded with a jealous, 'Ah, ye're a c***!'

But I agree that the word is very, very offensive. At the beginning of the year, I was doing Short Cuts by Raymond Carver with my fourth years (probably 10th grade in the US), and as one of the short stories had a few swear words (Tell the Women We're Going, if my memory serves me correctly), I'd photocopied the pages and blanked out some of those words. Only problem is that one of the girls was off ill on the first day we did that short story, and when she came back in the next day, I'd left her copy of the story at home, so I photocopied it again, but of course forgot to blank the words out. As we're reading out in class, they came to a stop and asked, 'Sir, what's the word you've blanked out?' I replied that it wasn't important, and that if they really wanted to know, they could buy the book when they were older. The girl who had the 'uncensored' copy looked up and with obvious glee, yelled out the 'c' word at the top of her voice.

I then had to explain what the word was, its translation in French ('chatte'), and advise them not to use as it was (IMHO) the most offensive word in the English language. :smash:

You (the generic 'you') wouldn't insult someone because he has brown eyes, so there's no reason to insult him because he has black skin; especially since study after study after study has disproved any notion of so-called 'superiority' based on something as superficial as the colour of one's epidermis.

Just my 2€....
Yeah, but I'm not gonna let it bother me either if someone calls me a cracker, or even a potato chip, even though I would prefer they just call me Liberty or even Ray.
*shrug*

I didn't know the word until a few hours ago, so it wouldn't bother me much, either. At my age, even when I come to Texas, the absence of this word from my lexicon for the past 41 years, probably means that it'll never have as much power to hurt me, as it would no doubt have when aimed at a native Texan/American.

I do get rather peeved when someone calls me a 'kike', though. :mad5

Forgive me for sticking my oar in here, but as a European, I have to ask: what does 'cracker' mean? Over here, it's a savoury biscuit.
You are not alone, I also don't understand what it means. I think that it means a white country person. I guess that would make me a cracker and many of the people here.

Words are only as offensive as we the recipient let them be. They only have the power that we allow them to have. They are only words after all.

We teach our children, "Sticks and stones can break my bones, but names will never hurt me." Its too bad adults forget things when we grow up.

Cracker is the racial insult that racist Blacks call White Anglo Americans.
It equates to a White calling the Black the "N" word.

Here a real cracker is still the savoury biscuit you mention. The go great w/ an apple for snack or w/ Crunchy Peanutbutter. I never grew up. :thumbs2:
Thanks for that. I'd sort of 'deduced', and checked out google. I teach the 'n' word to my pupils, but emphasise that if they ever use it against a human, they're likely to get their lights punched out.

And here we have Cream Crackers, made by these guys .. http://www.burtonsfoods.com/ I put cream cheese on top and then chopped jalopeño peppers. Yum!!

PS peanut butter? Aarrrgghhh!!!!! Back, Satan!!!! "rlol"

Re: Almost pulled my gun today

My 'contribution' isn't much as I've never fired a gun. Ever. But since I hope to be in your fair land soon, and getting my CHL as soon as possible, I can only offer what I think I'd have done.

The original poster showed, IMHO, exceptional restraint in letting those two gentlemen get to within five feet of him, without reacting. Five feet! I would not have shown that much control, I'm sure. Whether my weapon would have been out of its holster or not is another matter, but I'd have had my hand on the grip, and the would-be assailants would have seen my gesture.

CHL really is a minefield, isn't it?
