Ask them why they don't conceal when in uniform if concealed carry is so obviously superior to concealed carry.
That would be retarded because if they're in uniform everyone would know that they're still carrying a gun. And guess what, when cops are in plain clothes, they don't open carry.
Are you new to Texas? I see plainclothes Officers carrying openly rather frequently.

It's too long between sessions if you ask me to possibly get a bill past next time. It may not happen then either. So, it could be years from now if this chance get's passed by.
I don't see how that could have happened. In my opinion the majority of "everyone's" in Texas were pushing for Campus Carry and Parking Lot during this years session. Open Carry was simply an item being wished for until the priority items were passed.

I imagine that my take on this might annoy some, but I fall strongly into the category of taking things one step at a time. In this particular case it looks like Open Carry might actually be able to slip its way into fruition, simply by pure luck. If that happens, and it doesn't take us a step-back on our current CHL situation, I am all for it. If it does push us back, I am not.

Well, that's because you live in Houston where there tends to be a higher concentration of transplanted yanks and loons who moved to this great land following the scent of money.
That is entirely and unfortunately true.

I hope it doesn't take as long to get it all back, but it is going to take some time and thoughtful planning, as opposed to a "gimme everything right now or I'll call you an anti" approach. Even some native born Texans have grown up used to the idea that we only have what gun rights the govt decides we get to. We have years of programming to overcome. But we'll get there.
I don't think it'll take a century. Although I certainly agree that a name calling approach would only slow things down for us, as would an "I want it all right now!" approach. I think it's important to realize that gaining some victory can lead to further victory down the road. As far as the programming is concerned, I think Texas is further along than Tennessee. When I talked to people in TN about their stance on gun rights, it was a pretty mixed bag. I'd say more than half of those I spoke to were against. Whereas here, I've been hard pressed to find anyone against gun rights. There are a few people I know who moved over from China within the last year or two who don't like guns but that's about it.

I am starting to see the dangers of Open-carry. It apparently leads to negligent discharges into ones feet.

You lost me right there, Sir. I certainly hope that that is not the case. It shouldn't be an issue in the first place, but for now, it is a violation of the law.
I humbly submit to you, Sir, people speed, record copy-righted movies that they let others borrow and rip tags off mattresses too. LOL
Do you really think no one carries that don't have a CHL? Yes, they are breaking to law in this case but not all are doing it with bad intent.
Lets stay on track. You said "lots of people", and that is what I would dispute and have seen no evidence to support that. Do I honestly think that folks carry without a license? Yes. But I doubt that "lots" of them do so.

Re: HB 2756 Open Carry bill reported favorably

The concept of any state allowing individual counties to opt in or out of permitting the exercise of Constitutional rights is simply ridiculous in my opinion.
For that matter, the concept of any nation allowing individual states to opt in or out of permitting the exercise of Constitutional rights is ridiculous.

Some of us propose taking smaller steps on the same path. Compromising too much at a given-time only sets you further back...

There is a time to tackle a subject, a time to haggle over it, and a time to avoid it. Timing is everything.
