This morning Republicans are just beginning to assess the damage that former House Speaker and current presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has done to the GOP budget plan currently before Congress. On "Meet the Press" Sunday, Gingrich denounced House Budget Committee chairman Paul Ryan's plan to restructure Medicare, saying, "I don't think right-wing social engineering is any more desirable than left-wing social engineering. I don't think imposing radical change from the right or the left is a very good way for a free society to operate."

Gingrich just lost my vote.

Isn't the Tea Party about Radical Change?

If a return to a Constitution centered government is radical, then yes it is. The problem is that economy and balancing the budget is not usually conflated with "social engineering." Now Gingrich has gone there. He's obviously out of touch with what is actually happening in the world.

I tend to agree. I always defined a free society to be one that was capable of radical change without losing itself in the process.

What is funny is that I didn't have an issue with his issues in and of themselves. Nor did I have any issues with Bill Clinton and his antics. I hope that in the same situations I wouldn't do as they did. But what really really got my goat was the hypocrisy involved. To me that was an even bigger indicator of a personality flaw that would have a bearing on effective and fair governance.

In my mind personal issues like Gingrich and Clinton had should have been left to themselves. Okay, you guys got outed for being indiscreet and having a lack of fidelity. Move on. Just don't make it a political football when it really isn't. I think this outlook of mine alone is what tends to separate me from the Republican that I once was in my youth. I do not believe in politicizing personal preferences and imposing my mores on another.

Even if its between him and Obama for a second term? I made fun of the "anybody but Bush crowd", but I'm going to have to eat some crow as I think I would vote for a half rotten tomato if it was in the general election against Obama.

I won't be voting for the lesser of two evils. I did that last time with John McCain despite my severe reservations about him.

Newt is one of the reasons that I backed away from the Republican party years ago. His marital record alone just put a nasty taste in my mouth.
