Re: CHL and Children
I have a five year old (almost 6) that is aware that I carry. I made it a point to instill in her the seriousness of firearms from a young age. She knows that she is to tell me if she ever comes across one and never touch it. I do keep them put away except for one in the drawer of my nightstand when...

Re: Kelly AFB
Thanks, AFCop. That's what I figured, but it's good to get confirmation from someone who is in the loop in that respect.

Kelly AFB
Kelly Air Force Base (now Kelly Air Field) is located right next to Lackland AFB in San Antonio. A few years back, BRAC decided it was to be closed, and the Air Force gave it to the city of San Antonio. The area is now maintained by the city and patrolled by SAPD. However, there are still a few buil...

Re: Oklahoma State Parks
As I understand it, state parks are not off-limits. However, any building owned by the state for doing business with the public is off-limits. This would not be something that would have a huge bearing on your trip but something to keep in mind.

Re: NRA handgun ownership survey
I took the survey. It did not ask for any personal info, and it seemed to mainly be geared towards market research for selling the ad spaces in NRA's magazines. It asked a lot of questions about brands, prices, preferences, spending habits, etc. It looked like a pretty harmless survey to me.

Re: Carry @ Gun Range/Store?
I have never given a second thought to carrying my CCW to the range and unholstering when I am ready to shoot. When I check in at the counter, I usually have to show my ammo depending what range I am at, but it has never been an issue. While browsing through the store portion, like others have said,...

I made a similar purchase yesterday at a local shop. As for the FFL, I know you can go to auctionarms website and click on the FFL link at the top. That will spell out quite a few with their fees and phone numbers -- also sorted by how close they are to you.

Re: Texas Senate District 17 Race
I am voting through absentee ballot (mail ballot) in this Special Election. I tried to find out as much about our many choices as I could. Joan Huffman seemed to me to be somewhat liberal, and I don't like her views on immigration. Austen Furse seemed like he had a strong campaign, but like the OP s...

Re: What do you do when asked?
I generally have no problem answering that question. If it is a LEO, the answer is obvious. Family or friends -- no problem. Just the other day, I was at a friend's place with a couple of our coworkers and the discussion turned to firearms and protection. A couple minutes in, my buddy looked at me a...

Re: New Ayoob on "Concealed Carry"
In any event, be very cautious with (brief) verbiage for dispatcher as it's all being recorded. I certainly agree with that. There was a video linked on this forum a while back that I thought was excellent. It dealt with why you should never talk to the cops. It made you raise an eyebrow to how you...

Re: New Ayoob on "Concealed Carry"
From what I've read in these forums, that is what I have understood to be best, also. What would you suggest is the best way to handle that aspect?he suggests being the first to call 911.

True enough. If law enforcement want to pull you over, they will find an infraction. Same thing with searches.

Re: Had my first encounter with LEO
if you have a Texas Drivers License, or Texas Vehicle Registration, you have for all intent and purpose given Texas DPS probable cause to pull you over at any time. Same situation with TX Parks and Wildlife....you got a huntin license....you have given consent to search your vehicle, residence,etc....

Re: How Often Do You Carry?
I carry as often as I am allowed to. I work for Uncle Sam, so I am unarmed to and from work and anywhere I might stop on the way home. I don't do clubs, but I'll find myself in a laid-back bar now and then, so that will have me leaving the house unarmed. Also, whenever I am at my daughter's school f...
