Picked up 5 boxes of WWB 100 ct 9mm at the Walmart in The Colony. I think they were about $23 each.
They also had some WWB 100ct 40SW but I can only afford a little at a time.

Re: ammo on sale
Your thinking is all wrong. Ammo manufacturers aren't worried about the demand for ammo. They are more concerned with profit.03Lightningrocks wrote:I thought about this also and came to the conclusion that the ammo manufacturers may have believed the increase in demand would be temporary, so they did very little to add to production capacities.Liberty wrote:While the "People are just buying it up" makes plenty of sense to me, What is disturbing is that there is no news on any efforts to relieve the shortage with increased supplies. One would have thought that there would be more ammo imported or manufactured to make up for the shortages. The news media isn't talking much.Commander wrote:I just bought some Monarch Steel 9mm at Academy in Austin (183 @i-35) at $8.99 for 50; I was kind of reluctant as the last time I tried some, I had several FTEs, but it does beat nothing....they also had a few boxes of CCI in 40 and 45.....Back home last week, the guy behind the counter at Wally World ammo counter told me a similar story as related above - "the warehouse is out of ammo" and he didn't know when any would be coming in....At Academy in Mesquite last week, they were out of 9mm (except the NATO), they did have some CCI in 45 which I bought. The guy there said he gets 4 trucks a week and sometimes they have ammo on them and sometimes they don't....I have yet to see any explanation of what is going on with the ammo supply other than people are "just buying it up"...
I went to the range the other day and rationed the amount of ammo that I took with me. I'm trying to replace what I shot before I go to the range again.
Suppliers don't increase their production just because there is a shortage. Suppliers are in it to make money and they face many of the same decisions we face. Currently I believe there is a general consensus among gun people that Obama is bad news for when it comes to the 2nd amendment. Whether that be assault weapon bans, ammo taxes, etc. The future outlook is perceived as bleak.
If suppliers think their product will possibly sell at a higher price in the future, there is no incentive for them to increase production.

Re: ammo on sale
That's what I've been seeing at every Walmart I go to. They have .22 and .223 and no handgun ammo whatsoever. Strange because it seems like this time last year it was the opposite.TheArmedFarmer wrote:I've been checking our Wal-Mart in Jacksonville lately. Today, at around 3:00pm they had a few boxes of various calibers. No 9mm, 40 or 45, though. I was particularly surprised to see a couple different brands of .223 ammo (I recall seeing Remington). They also had a good number of the 550 round bricks of .22LR in stock for around $15.

Re: ammo on sale
No problem. I know there were a couple of boxes of .25 too.
1999 huh? That is weird. Why would Walmart be selling ammo that is 10 years old? When I first saw those boxes I thought maybe someone had duped Walmart into excepting a return on old or reloaded ammo. Oh well, as long as it goes bang.

Re: ammo on sale
The Walmart on Forest/635 had 6 (50rd) boxes of Federal Classic in the hard to find 380. $17 and change if I remember correctly. The boxes looked really old and beat up for some reason. I guess I should have bought them but I was in a rush.

Re: ammo on sale
10pm???? Is that a Walmart policy? I've never heard of that but I guess I've never tried to buy ammo after 10pm.ninemm wrote:Just got back from the Walmart in Dallas at I-30 and Cockrell Hill. They had about 12000 rounds of White Box 9mm 115 gr. FMJ at $19.97/100. I picked up 2000 rounds. The clerk told me they got it in late yesterday but didn't put it out as they can't sell it after 10:00 p.m. anyway.
The 10000 rounds I left them with probably won't last the day. Other than about 6 boxes of 38 Special 125 gr. JHP, that appears to be all that had been added to their ammo supply.

Re: ammo on sale
Stopped by the Academy in Lewisville and they had a TON of ammo. They just got a shipment in today and they seemed to have every caliber in stock except .380. Everything else though.

Re: ammo on sale
Academy on Forest and 75 has a ton of Monarch .223. Brass ($9.99) and Steel ($6.29) cased. I'm sure it won't last til tomorrow.
