Though admittedly I've carried just the .38 when making a quick run out of the house. I would never go anywhere where I know there will be large groups of people and not carry one of the XD's.
It's sad, but pack mentality is growing in the use of violence, and though one shot and dead POS is usually enough to get them to run, you never know when they will do something even dumber and try to attack you.
Being a father myself, I would have stepped in and helped. It's amazing that people are afraid to help these days.
I'm not going to step in if a dude slaps his wife/GF or even kid. IF it gets heated and they are yanking on hair and punch each other, I'll call the cops, but if someone is on the ground being stomped on, I'm going to try and help and make sure that person has a chance at living.
