This is my only complaint about QC...

Question:
Quail Creek is the only range I have been to in my adult life, are any other ranges marked better with regards to a "lane?" I have a hard time deciding which spot on the backboard is for the spot from where I am shooting. I'd like to see chalk lines as on a sports field that marked actual lanes. That would be cool.

Why the 2 seconds between shots rule? It doesn't apply in real life situations and it would be good for home defenders to have experienced faster shooting prior to actually needing it...

They are making improvements out there, like adding more space to the pistol range. Last visit I shot my Taurus PT92 next to my daughter on the 25 yard range. It was fun but not very practical.

You have witnessed more than your share of issues, in just 4 visits.

These were patron caused and not initiated by the RO that has been referenced.

Feb. 1: I visited a local indoor range for the first time. Near the end of the of the 2+ hour shooting time, six COMPLETELY UNEDUCATED shooters arrived. When it was observed that one person was trying to load her semi-auto pistol one round at a time we became instantly concerned. Then, she dropped it into the range... One of her companions tried to figure out her weapon for 15 minutes without getting a shot off. Yet another that had no clue what to do, swept the line repeatedly when she kept turning around to ask what to do next! We happened to have an NRA certified instructor in our group and coincidentally we were leaving, he was able to help them first to be safe, then at least begin to shoot correctly. He signed up these six, and three additional, new customers for an introductory shooting and handling class.

My question was, how in the heck does any range let people with ZERO experience on their range with zero guidance?

I will go back to this range, but if this occurs again I will try somewhere else.

Made our second trip to Quail Creek last Saturday. No problems and no safety transgressions were noted. My Wife and daughter and I all had a great time.

There was a group of about 6 20-22 year olds that did not all pay to shoot. They had a single monster pistol on the 25 yard and 50 yard range. The hand stamp that the extra shooters had were all mirror images. Brilliant. They were told to leave in a firm and quiet tone, which they did. No muss, no fuss.

I like this range, so far. The only changes I'd make as an owner (money being no object), would be more shade behind the shooting stands and better seating for people waiting/watching. I'd also like to see some netting or other divider to control ejected cases. They are spending some money to improve some things, like the footbridge over the gully.

I hope I never am subjected to the treatment others have commented about. If I am, as with any business, we will not return.

I took my Wife and young daughter to Quail Creek today, even after reading all the previous posts. At least they warned me in advance of what I might expect.

Luckily, we had no issues with the range officer. The other shooters were very nice, and one let my girls shoot one of their rifles and a pistol, both 22's. We were shooting a circa 1940 Winchester Model 67 and a brand new Marlin 60, along with a Taurus PT92. We had not been to a shooting range in 20 years.

This was a nice experience, knowing what has happened to others. The ranges were both busy and everyone was cautious and well-behaved.

The best part, my 11 year-old is hooked.

Thanks for the warning, I am glad that bahavior was not witnessed otherwise this would be a completely different post.
