Of course, it's your life and your family. Do what you want and be safe.
I was merely providing a different point of view. If you don't think it helps, just disregard.

When did I say you need to hide in your bedroom and watch the bad guy harming your daughter?
I said use your cameras to investigate, then you decide what to do. Use technology to your advantage. That's why army use NV now. Why don't they just go fire at anything that makes a sound? Why do you think people use baby monitor now?
Cameras are so cheap now. In combination with a motion sensor, it is about $100 a room. How many rooms do we have, right? Why don't we use them?
Cameras, better doors, better windows, motion sensed lights, alarms. Can't we just use them so that we don't have to put our lives in danger by "go investigate"?

Aren't glad that it didn't turn out in a different way? He could have just killed you, right?

Safer for everybody!
You go investigate, the bad guy ambushs you and shoots, then all you family end up dead along with all other horrible things. Aren't you going to shoot everything you see that moves in your house? Doubtly! However, for the bad guys, they WILL because they know anything that moves is a target for them.
Always maintain the benefit of the surprise.

John, I considered that. Again, not that stupid yet.
I am writing these with a good intention. If you feel being offended, please don't.
In fact, dogs are the best home defense weapon, often better than guns. The protective film is great too. A hard throwing rock cannot even break the window. It's also put inside, not outside, so knife wouldn't help. Cameras are great. Combine them with motion sensors, you are in very good shape. have better doors and locks!!!
The "go investigate" mentality is prisicely why many wives weep over their husbands' dead bodies while waiting for police to catch some scambag car thief.
The whole point of "defense" or should I say "survival" is to try our best to avoid the dangerous confrontation, not purposely walk into it. Is your life worth the same as some crack head? Is putting your life on the line worth saving the SUV you have?
In my stupid mind, my life and my love ones' lives are worth so much more. Stuff i can replace. Well, I could replace my wife, only if I can get quite a few milions which I clearly don't have.
All I hope is that some of you will think for a sec before putting yourself into a dangerous situation. Walk away if you can, and turn on your cameras rather than going into your garage with commdo gear.
Since it's your life, it is your choice too.

You always wait in darkness till bad guys come to you, my friend. I am not stupid enough to search for unknown enemies in hiding. No sane military commander or police officer would do this.
Why do you do this?
On the other hand, if you forsee that much trouble (guns involved, 911 called), why do you go there alone with no backup???
Yes yes yes, we are the soldiers of our castles, well, we have the authority to hunt down bad guys in our casles, but do we have the responsibility? Nope.

Surely you know the police response time for some areas of Texas is over an hour, especially if your call is about barking dogs.
If the goblins know where you are, they can break down the door, shoot through it, or set your house on fire.
I think it's entirely appropriate at times to investigate. Though it is dangerous, it may be less dangerous than staying put.

Please don't educate me the "castle doctrine", I know that. Surprisingly, I am not THAT stupid, yet, nor am I saying that you have no right to defend yourself/loved ones etc. We have the right and we have the laws on our side too - how often is that!!
All I am saying is, it's not our duty to catch bad guys or clean the street. Some of you may feel that way, and certainly, I feel that way, but the laws are NOT on our side this time. It is our duty to survive and to protect our loved one by means of defense ONLY IF necessory.
Having said that, for those who don't understand what "defense" is, going to investigation mode with a gun and flashlight is NOT something a sane man would call "defense", right? Yes, it's your home and you are allowed by law to do whatever, BUT, would you rather choose to face the deadly confrontation or would you do all you can to avoid it?
Some many of you, maybe take a look at 2 books: "In the gravest extreme" and "Strong on defense", then we can probalby have some reasoning put into perspective.
BTW: get night vision, not flash light.

Here's how to locate someone via a license number search.

I am utterly supprised to see many of you actually "went to investigate". What would you do if you were the bad guy and seeing some dude with flash light? Right, shoot the light!!!
Call me stupid, but if I hear any suspicious noise, I would take cover and wait. Not to say I would call 911, but I would NOT go investigate. Put up some cameras. They are so cheap nowadays, a price of gun, you can almost buy 10 of them.
When somebody eyeballs you in the parking lot, instead of get in your car and drive away, you reach your gun??!!!
I bet none of you realize, when in a road rage situation, the "bad" guy, scared away by your flashing gun, could just spend $5, get your address off DMV/DPS, show up at your place with a bigger gun and a bunch of bad guyS.
