Re: Introduce yourself
It pays better depending on what company you're employed with. Right now I don't make too much, but I'm also in need of more experience, and I make enough to get by so I'm fine for now.

Re: Introduce yourself
Be careful what you ask for.......I just might drag you into it!!lunchbox wrote:WildBill wrote:Welcome yahoshua - We can use another CHLer who happens to be a gunsmith.
i wish i was a gunsmith
But first, a few questions you should ask yourself:
1. Am I masochistic? (ie. do I enjoy being yelled at, being tortured by the same standard set of dumb questions day in and day out, and do I still have the patience to not tell the customer that he's an idiot when he should know how to clean and field strip the firearm he's owned for the last 10 years?)
2. Do I like puzzles? (Yes, enjoyable puzzles such as the dreaded "Box-O-Gun" that will include most, if not all, of the parts for the customers' gun that needs to be reassembled. All the while sorting out parts and pieces, some usable others not, of other guns and hoover vacuum parts that should've been discarded back during Y2K)
3. Do I enjoy being treated like a kindergartner everytime a customer wants a job done? (I have blued and parkerized and milled and hammered on guns and installed scopes on dozens of guns, I went to school for 14 months to learn all this stuff. If I need a referesher I'll go to my school material and/or read up on Jerry Kuhnhausens' books. At the worst, I'll take a junk gun and play with it so I'll learn something).
4. (My favorite) Do I enjoy subtly teasing the stupid while wishing I could go to their home and seize all their guns so they don't hurt themselves or do something else incredibly stupid? (Like the police officer who shot himself in the foot while going onto our range on a date with his girlfriend whom he was cheating on his wife with, the wife subsequently found out her husband was cheating on her when she called us up to find out how her husband shot herself in the foot).
If you answered YES to all the above questions, then YOU need to enroll for a gunsmithing course and begin your career as a gunsmith!!
*The above was a cynical commentary, seeded with witty and blunt humor while attempting to maintain my sanity. Hope you enjoyed it.*

Well, I've never bobtailed a 1911 before (only 7 months into the career) but if you're willing to bring it down to the shop I'd be happy to bumble about doing one for you.
