Halleujah--Thanks--Goodby (to Waiting Room)
Mailman just brought license! Info: Application mailed in August 4 License received today September 22 Total time to process (including mail time) 49 days. Seems like they are working it down. Possible factor that may have affected time: * Had old expired Texas CHL license -- they may have had some ...

Re: Some Good News....Really this time!
Well, finally some real good news. Last night I checked the DPS website for status of my application and got the "Processing Application" message. Checked again this morning and says: "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active." USPS site said application deliv...

Reciprocity Question RE: Minnesota
In researching reciprocity with other states I came across an oddity. Although Texas unilaterally recognizes several other state CHLs, there is (other than Vermont, with no license required) only one state that similarly honors Texas but is not honored by Texas. Minnesota state website says Texas CH...

Re: Some Good News....FOLLOW UP
WELL seems if news is too good, maybe it is not "good" A week later, still nothing in mail, and now the web site says "processing application." Think I will call again, but suspect the "good news" was in error. I only told the lady my name (not license # SS# etc) and as...

Re: Suggestions for carrying a Sig P-229R
Have P-229 .40 and Milt Sparks Summer Special II. Works great. I also have a Horseshoe Leather OWB that is really comfortable, but here in TX the Milt Sparks is easier to hide under a t-shirt.
I have since gone to Sig 239 (single stack) and also have Milt Sparks SSII for it and it is even better.

Re: tested tonight
Had similar experience a few years ago in Florida. (I had a Florida non-resident lic before Texas got CHL) Brand new with CHL with a Sig 229 under slightly heavy weight T-shirt. I'm sure I was "concealed" to average observers, but on several occasions over a few weeks, I noticed what I tho...

Really good reason to vote for McCain/Palin
Like a lot of others, I have had a bit of a grudge against John McCain because of McCain-Feingold and its effect on free speech issues. (Not however, enough of a grudge to consider voting for the anti-gun Obama/Biden ticket!!!) A little research following his choice of Sarah Palin has more than sett...

Some Good News....
Just checked with DPS, by phone, as to status of my application (because it did not show up on website tracking link). I was told by the lady answering that my license had been completed and was being mailed to me. Timing: Mailed application Aug 01 and it was received by DPS (per USPS tracking) Aug ...

Re: Interesting Tidbits I got from DPS today (yes on a Saturday)
Thanks, very informative and your info may be reflected in my experience this morning. I initially applied online and paid for my packet. I sent it in last week, but when I checked this morning the computer program, which had previously shown "Packed mailed to applicant" now shows "No...

Re: Houston man wins $1.2 million settlement in shooting case
A Couple Observations/Opinions: Assuming the story is true and accurate, and this is a HUGE assumption considering the source.... snip Good point! KHOU is a CBS affiliate. In a recent CHL renewal class the instructor related an incident that happened in Ft. Worth in which a CHL intervened in an sho...

Re: OK, Here is my unusual story.
Excellent reply, Excaliber. "my adrenaline high and my finger on the trigger" is a bad place to be without having identified your target, backstop, and a decision to shoot made. Even in a known dangerous situation like clearing a home with a burglar known to be inside, your finger should n...

Re: Scary situation last night
Glad all turned out ok. A couple of comments, not criticism, but just to think about. 1. If you have a handgun you are not comfortable carrying with one in the chamber (other than an old cowboy style revolver with an empty chamber under the hammer) you might consider changing to another gun. 2. The ...

Re: Why no WA reciprocity?
This info is several years old, but I think it is correct. When I was working out of Seattle several years ago, I went to the King County Courthouse and applied for a permit, waited a little over an hour for them to check the info and walked out with the permit. I did have a Florida permit, but don'...
