Re: Good class size
I have been a CHL instructor since the beginning, and it seems that I was told that each instructor could have no more than 5 on the firing line at one time.I limit mine to 3 for teaching purposes and safety.

Re: Instructor's Cert Renewal
I talked to Marion Stahl last week.I was told to take the written test online, and the range qualification for Instructor renewal would be done every other time you renewed,I assume every 4 years. You still must pay your Instructor renewal fee and take online test each 2 years.

Digital prints
Personally,I think that if this is what DPS wants, then they should be required to do prints at their licensing office. This is an extra hassle and expense to students that will deter people from taking the coarse. Most people are getting a license to carry in their car,and they are learning that it ...

Re: A disappointing State Fair episode 10-1-09
I am not siding with the State Fair, but a Judge might. He may decide that even if the 30.06 sign was not posted, you received "effective notice" verbally when you were told that you may not enter without complying with State Fair policy.Again,I think that this a disgusting policy, and if you ...

Re: Fort Worth Ladies' Shooting program?
If you ladies don't mind driving to Corsicana,we might can arrange for some remedial,or basic training.I am a Tx.CHL Instuctor,NRA certified pistol instuctor and have been training ladies since late 60s, at Lackland AFB.Classes would have to be limited to no more than four ladies, and week days only...

Re: Hand Loads for Self Defense
I do not think that the type of ammo would come up in a prosecution for deadly force. The thing that would matter,to a jury,is why you used deadly force.Did you use the minimum amount of force nessesary to STOP the person.Or were you neglegent,or have total disregard for your actions.I have been load...

Re: CHL Instructor Renewal Class
Lt.Hitt has got a good point about shooting small carry guns, but when I pay $100 and spend the whole day there,I'm gonna shoot the biggest thing in my closet.By the way,I normally carry a Springfield Mil.Spec. 45.He did not commend me for using it, and 230 grain hard ball. The only reason to carry a...

Re: AMC Theater at the Parks Mall... 30.06(kinda)
This forum just woke me up and made me aware that I need to look a little harder for the 30.06 sign at AMC 30 in mesquite. The wife and I have been going to this theater since 1995 about 4 or 5 times a year.Last Saturday was the first time that I noticed the sign at the front door ,almost at ground-l...

Re: New Certificates of Training Form - CHL-100
If you have old TRs,you can continue to deplete your supply, and use them.Do not order more, download the new CHL-100,they are free and not numbered. If you are using your old TRs,until depleted, use the TR number when filling out your class completion sheet,If using the CHL-100 there will be no number ...

Re: CHL Instructor Renewal Class
Attended yesterday(9-1-09).Class as boring as ever.Good news,no $5 for TRs.You can download CHL 100 forms free,on DPS web. I heard that we do not have to go back for 4 years, but my certificate expires in 2011. They may do renewal class online.I really do not think that they are sure yet, maybe I miss...

"Premises"
Speaking of parking lots in the CHL handbook,"Primises"means a building or a portion of a building. The term does not include any public or private driveway, street, sidewalk,or walkway, parking lot, parking garage,or other parking area. Does this subsection have no meaning? Back in 96,a Correc...

I have been doing this from the onset, but never heard this one.A student ,from about a month ago,was sent new FP cards and was told that his app.pack was short FP cards. Now I know and he knows that the cards were sealed -up in the pack by me.We would have rather heard the truth,"we lost them,o...

Re: grey area question
I'm no lawyer, but I think that it is a "defense of prosecution" to carry from your home to your car.If you had to use the weapon, can you convince the LEO that you were taking it to your car?
