I don't know the answer to that one; you will need to contact Sheri at DPS directly for the answer, but you may have to wait until next week since she and the Sgt. are teaching the class this week.

The way everything is being conducted right now is subject to change with the state legislature in session right now. All you need to do is look at the bills that have been submitted so far and you can see that there could be some real changes. No one knows what the statutes will look like until June.

Re: CHL Instructor Certification FRUSTRATION.

The abbreviated class is no more. All classes will be 5 days. Days 1-4 are in the classroom 8am - 5pm. Day 5 is range time to run through the qualification course with a revolver and a semi-auto. Day five on the range is usually over by 11:30 at which time if you have passed everything you will be going home with your certificate and can teach a class the next day.

You will also need to be certified instructor; either POST, NRA or Military before being accepted to attend the class. They don't teach you how to teach or handle firearms. You will already need to know that before coming to the class.

As I understand it, they have changed this as they were having a number of various problems with instructors not being qualified or safe with the guns or very knowledgable. So, they went back and reviewed the statutes which they follow.

They are in the process of changing the application forms, etc...... of course this may all change again come September depending upon what happens this legislative session that ends in May.
