wgoforth wrote:I guess I wonder how many will OC if it does become lawful. I spent a week in Tucson, and didn't see a single person oc-ing. I was among the public, restaurants all week and didn't notice a thing. Prior to that, I was in Mesa for a week, and other than a bunch of us shooting up in the Mts, I didn't see any.
Since the proposed is CHLer that can OC, not many would OC if they are used to CC. Most likely, OC would happen on Weekends, off working hours and not when you are going to work or coming back from work.

Re: open carry
I am for open carry, however, where practiced and in large urban areas, like DFW Metro and Houston what are the ramifications?

Give it a try, join us at Dallas Pistol Club, it is tons of fun ;)03Lightningrocks wrote:Beiruty wrote:With stiff gun belt, setting up your rig (holster and 2 mag carrier) is not horribly bad but it is not like you are pulling up your pants either. You need that in pistol matches because you need to unconceal and draw while shooting unless it is too hot in the summer where we get a waiver. Also, usually I take one pistol to the match. I carry it concealed till I am at range.03Lightningrocks wrote:Is it really that much trouble to strap on a gun at the competition?
I have never done the competition thing. I kind of pictured using my range bag, like when I go to the range.

Re: open carry
No one is proposing to kill CC and have only OC. I guess the drive is to allow CHLers to OC when they think it is doable and reasonable.
Here is an example. On the weekends, I do go to pistol competition matches. I know it is legal to open carry when going to the range, but this is the exception of the rule and most likely someone saw me while pumping gas midway to the range, Police is called, or Police was near the gas station, I may be arrested and I have to prove that I was truly going to the range that day in a court of law. There is much at risk that I like many others do not dare to OC.
If OC was made legal for CHLer. All that I have to show the officer is my CHL and It is end of the story.
There are benefits for OC, a matter of convenience.

Re: open carry
Here's a solution:
for the verbal notice for open carry:
It would be enough to notify you to leave and go disarm or go conceal and come back. Verbal notice should only affect visible firearms. Verbal notice would not be enough and most likely will never come to play in CC unless someone was made ( CC is compromised)
In addition of the verbal notice, business can use a generic No visible firearms are allowed on the premises.
30.06 is needed if the business does not want you CC on the premises.

Re: open carry
Best course, is to introduce a bill for OC that do protect the 30.06 and mandate a different sign for OC. This makes sense and should be acceptable for all parties. This way, Businesses that do not like OC could restrict OC but leave CC alone.

Let me add,Shoot Straight wrote:Good question. An AR-15 is not a handgun so a 30.06 sign does not apply to that either right now.Beiruty wrote:Charles, however, said 2 signs would not fly. I kindly ask why this compromise is not possible?
Since we do have OC for long guns already in TX. What is legally needed to notify someone that he can't just walk in at CVS with his AK on his shoulder?

Re: open carry
Giving a great deal of thought and energy to the OC debate is needed and very useful.
As Charles noted, if posting a 30.06 is all what is needed to ban Open carrying on the premises, then concealed carry would be affected. If on the other hand a new (smaller) sign that is notify that no visible firearms are allowed. CC could be still allowed and the business may not have an issue with CC.
