Born and raised in Baytown. Sterling class of 1979. Then left for A&M. Half of the family still lives in town .
My partner and I operated the CHL classes (TCWA and handgunclasses.com) and indoor range in the old Citizens bank building for 12 years before the building was condemned in May of this year( no, we don't own it ! : ))) I still get back tax notices for a building I do not own !! ).

I'm still through town once a week.
My observations are that crime is about the same as when Shafer left. Old Baytown, Pelly, and old goose creek have not changed much. I think the crime (mostly petty stuff) has just spread out more to the rest of town. You folks have aparently gotten Byron's atttention though! ;-)
Under the old zero tolerance program, there wasn't as much vandalism.

About 3-4 years ago we started getting more and more break-in attempts along Texas Ave. I think my partner David filed 27 BPD reports in a 3 year period.
A lot of the problem is all the kids running wild in the middle of the night. Mamasita is worn out from taking care of all the kids and papa is drunk or hung-over and so the kids bolt and practice their future craft and start spraying graffiti.
I 've heard the violent crime is attributed to the recent population surge and not enough BPD folks on patrol. It's probably a fantasy but it would be nice to have 2-3 more units rolling per shift. But's that's a lot of money. And you know Baytown......
