Re: ammo on sale
The Academys here in San Antonio have pretty much had a stready supply of Monarch brass 9mm for $10.99. Oddly they actually had some Blazer brass, but it was $11.99 where right next door at Walmart it goes for $8.99 (when they have it).

Re: ammo on sale
The Walmart at 1604 & Portranco in San Antonio still had a lot of blazer brass 9mm for $8.97 with a 6 box limit.

Re: ammo on sale
Walmart 1604 & Portranco in San Antonio had a bunch of Blazer 9mm and .40 yesterday althought they are limiting to 2 boxes per person. Academy across the street on 1604 has 9mm (they usually do lately).

Re: ammo on sale
.223 is easy to find now and even Academy has the steel case Monarch stuff cheaper than that.CainA wrote:For what it's worth folks:

Re: ammo on sale
It seems like things are starting to ease up here in San Antonio. The Academy's seem to have a pretty good supply of 9mm (not sure about other calibers). And even though they have limits, they seem to be pretty liberal. I had gone back tonight again, and when I asked the guy what the limit today was, he said 5 boxes per order. I said ok, I'll take 5 boxes. He then said again, 'That's 5 boxes per order, like if your wife needs 5 boxes and your cousin needs 5 boxes etc.'. So basically he was saying I could buy as much as I wanted. I said I was not greedy and just took 5. I've managed to snag about 2K rounds without even trying just the last few days (on top of my hefty stash), so it's not like I really needed any more.

Re: ammo on sale
The Academy on 1604 and Portranco has had a 2 box limit for a while which has been fine and I've just gotten in the habit of going in and saying 'Give me my limit of 9mm'. The Academy on 410 and Military also has limits but never seems to have any 9mm, but they did today. So I go and say the same thing and the guy hands me 10 boxes.
On a side note, I finally found a CX4 I had been looking for for months, but had to drive up to Austin to pick it up. On the way back, just for kicks, I stopped at an obscure Walmart and they had 4 boxes of Remington bulk 250 count 9mm for $48.97 each. Triple bag them please.

Re: ammo on sale
.223 seems to be fairly available again around here. Academy had a bunch of the Reminton UMC 200 round bulk packs for $99, and have had plenty of the Monarch brass for $9.99 per 20 for some time. While not the prices they used to be, not that bad, and better than the price you are showing from GM.CainA wrote:I don't know if .223 has been in short supply or not(I don't own anything in that caliber), but Gander Mtn. in Spring has cases 1k rounds for $569 or something like that. I don't know if that's a good price or not, just sending the msg.

Re: ammo on sale
FWIW, I shot 100 rounds of that Hot Shot 9mm I mentioned above and it worked just fine. Accurate and pretty clean. I also shot 100 rounds of the Monarch steel case 9mm and also had no problems. The Academy on 1604 & Portranco still has some of the Monarch. And they also have some bulk Remington UMC .223 $99 for 200 rounds. Not the best price, but not the worse either. while I din't look for anything else, the shelves did not look quite as empty as they have been, So maybe things are easing up.

Re: ammo on sale
Academy carries Monarch .223 in brass and steel case. The cheap stuff is the steel case. I've heard mixed reviews on it due to the steel coating fouling things up. The brass Monarch is like $9.99 a box. I've shot plenty of the brass stuff without problem.dmac wrote:The Academy on I10 and Grand Parway had Monarch 223 for less than $7 a box yesterday. A friend called me from there so I don't remeber the exact price, but it was $6.49 or something. I had just recieved a case of PMC from Bud's or I would have scopped it up.
On a side note, I just got 500 rounds of Hot Shot brass 9mm 115gr FMJ. I've never heard of this stuff before. It's made in Romania. I'll take some to the range tomorrow and see what happens.

Re: Ammo sighting
As of about an hour ago (9:00am 4/13/09) the Academy in San Antonio, on 1604 and Portraco had about 50+ boxes of Monarch steel case 9mm for $8.99 per box of 50. Hey, beggars can't be choosy. I only bought 2 boxes because I have plenty but wanted to see how the steel case stuff works. I've had no problems with the brass Monarch .223.

Re: ammo on sale
I went there this morning for some .223 (which they had plenty). I jokingly asked about 9mm and the guy said that they had implemented a 2 box per brand per caliber limit, but it got rescinded from the higher ups. As a result the Bullet Hole (local range) had just bought up all of the cheaper 9mm they had just gotten in. He did hint that tomorrow (Wed) would be a good day to be there when they open. But take that with a grain of salt. BTW, they still had the $20 per 50 boxes of NATO 9mm for anyone desperate.Derekhie wrote:Just a heads up...the new Academy in San Antonio, on 1604 and Patranco(sp) have 45acp 100 count white box for $40 and 50 count Magtech for $20 as of this morning.

Re: ammo on sale
Anyone else seeing any signs that things are easing up a bit? While I still have not seen much of the common handgun stuff, I have been seeing more stuff like .223 and other rifle ammo. Plus Academy seems to have a pretty good supply of the 9mm NATO stuff if you don't mind spending $20 for a box of 50. Better than nothing I guess.

Re: ammo on sale
The Academy at Loop 410 & Military Dr had a bit of the NATO 9mm @ $19 for 50 (I passed). I also spotted about 3 boxes of the .45 Remington UMC bulk boxes (200 or 250 count) over on the far right side of the ammo shelf, partly hidden by a clipboard if anyone needs that.
Bass Pro was out of all the common stuff as were the Walmarts I passed. I did go ahead and grab a bunch of the bulk .22LR that Walmart still had, since that may be all I will be shooting for a while.

Re: ammo on sale
I'm starting to get a bad feeling about this ammo situation. When I was at Walmart today looking for 9mm, the guy said the warehouse was out and he didn't expect any more any time soon. With all of the on-line places out of stock too, I have to wonder what the heck is going on. This has to be more than just hording. It's like there is already some super secret ammo ban in place or something.kd5zex wrote: Interesting side note:
All of the ammo price tags have been removed and what little ammo they do have behind the counter has been moved to the far left of the shelf where in the past it was organized by caliber smallest to largest, left to right. I suppose this means they are not expecting to have any stock in the near future...

Re: ammo on sale
Well, I don't know about the space aliens or prairie dogs, but I do keep firearms mostly for self defense and unforeseen 'emergencies'. Sure I go to the range for fun, but also to keep my skills up to par. However, I'm not going to waste my ammo if there is no means of replacing it.Liberty wrote:There are those preparing for the end of our world as we know it. Most of the folks I know who own firearms go to the range for the fun of shooting, not just for practice. This is where i fail to get it. I sure didn't mean to slight you or your years of shooting experience....your in a rather large club. Many of us here have that many or more years not only shooting but also hunting. For me shooting is more of a hobby than a necessity driven activity. Being able to defend myself with my firearms is more of a fringe benefit. I would be sad if I couldn't shoot off a few rounds just for fun now and again.
Now, I did go to Bass Pro Shop on I-10 and 1604 and they had just gotten a truck in the night before. I got there at about 9:30am and the shelves were already half stripped. People were grabbing it up. I was not (too) greedy and only snatched 8 boxes of 100 count WWB 9mm. When I was talking to the gun guy about something else, I asked him if it was more a problem of people snatching it up or not getting as much in. He said a little of both. And then he said that whenever there is a gun show in the area (I think there is one in Austin this weekend) that people come in and buy a few grand worth of ammo just to sell at the show at marked up prices.
In any case, now that I have some extra, I can go have a little fun and still have enough on hand for those space aliens.
