glad you are ok. we visit the island several times a year. i was born and raised in houston living in carrollton now. but we spent every weekend and holiday on the island when i was young. i absolutly love it. the wife and i were there over memorial day weekend. i will say there are some sketchy folks out and about, more than once i glad i was carrying. east beach around sundown, and the seawall well past midnight. i am usally left alone by strangers as i am a relativly ugly gent, (you know the old saying. dont fight ugly people, we got nothing to lose) :) if ever i were to be "approached" while with any members of my family i would rather draw too soon, and deal with possible repercussions, than some get the drop on me leave my family to the ill-will of these dirtbags.
