You've got a point there... focus on the cost of real protection (police escorts, limited access buildings, screeners, metal detectors, etc. Then compare that to private self-protection.

I agree that "students" should not be emphasized in lieu of personal, individual security on, around, en route to, campus.UpTheIrons wrote:No! No! No! We CANNOT frame the discussion this way. I liked the term last night when I read this, but woke up this morning with a changed mind. Anything that is firearm related and has the word "student" in it will be turned against us.RHenriksen wrote:Coming in 2013:
"The Student Protection Act"
Remember, the whole argument was framed by the antis thusly: "They want to GIVE STUDENTS GUNS!"

Yes, yes, yes, yes. Also include personal security around the campus and hiking/biking/bussing to campus. All of those are affected by the stinkin' restriction on campus buildings.Charles L. Cotton wrote:My plan is to launch an entire educational series on "Personal Security on Campus" and it will focus more on the individual student's security, rather than on mass murders on campus. Preventing a Virginia Tech on a Texas campus is a legitimate goal and passing "campus-carry" would lessen the possibility, but I believe the real focus needs to be on the individual like your daughter walking alone.
For that matter, we ought to document the percent of off-campus students and staff hike, bike, or (like John Woods) ride the bus to campus.
