In 2001 we were coming back from New Orleans. We were pulling a 5th wheel. We got into a very bad storm and decided to stop for a while and eat at a Cracker Barrel in Alexandria, LA. We found out we were under tornado warnings etc. . . It was late and Cracker Barrel allows you to stay over night on their parking lots. So, we decided to stay. We were in our trailer happy as a lark. The storms had calmed down. I heard the generator choking (running low on gas). It was about 2:00AM. I made sure I had my pistol and exited the trailer to fill the generator. Two Alexandria PD were sitting about 20 yards from trailer. I waved. Did my thing. I walked over to speak and one of them told me they knew we were from out town without even seeing the Texas plates because we would have known better to stay there. Read my 1611 KJV; prayed hard, held my 1911 and slept light. No incidents left early.KBCraig wrote:I've told this one before, so forgive me...
When I was riding with a co-worker to a week-long training event in central Louisiana, he made the mistake of relying on Mapquest directions instead of actually looking at the map. We took a detour through a very undesirable neighborhood in Alexandria.
After we got the hairy eyeball at several stop signs, from unsavory critters lounging on the stoops, he turned and asked, "How much ammo are you carrying?"
Note: he did not ask, "Are you carrying?"![]()

So I replied: "On me, you mean? Ummm... 24 rounds of .45 and 16 rounds of 9x18, but more in my suitcase if we get pinned down. How about you?"
He was carrying a GP100 with four speedloaders, plus some loose rounds in a case under the seat, totaling about 50 rounds.
We were good.
