Processing Delays

I already had my PIN when the application packet was sent in October because I had applied online and paid the fee.

I noticed that the online status remained "Application mailed to applicant" for almost 3 three weeks before the online status changed to "Processing application".

I sent an email to the office about a week after I had the delivery receipt and received a reply that it would not begin being processed for at least three weeks after it was received. The DPS did not confirm to me that it was "on hand" but since I had the USPS delivery confirmation I inferred that they had it.

Once the processing started it took about 3 calendar weeks before my status changed to "License Issued or Certificate Active" online.

I decided that I would let the system work and only sent the one email query to them.

So it looks like if you have not applied online, you will get a PIN from the DPS about 21-25 days after you have a delivery confirmation of your application.

It also appears that sometimes the process doesn't go as smoothly for some.

Looks to me the rule of thumb is:

1. After 3 weeks of application receipt a PIN should be received

2. If you alrady have a PIN from applying online it takes about 3 weeks for the status to change to show that your application is in human hands being processed and not sitting in a stack

3. Sometimes there is a hiccup internally and there is a delay because of internal paperwork handling and sometimes not getting back the BI data, particularly if it comes from out of state

For those of you that are waiting, be patient but when there appears to be an inordinate delay a proactive email/call seems to get some focus on your application's processing.

I know the statute requires "shall issue" determination before the expiry of the sixtieth day of processing unless there is a problem. I also know that the the "waiting" is excruciating.

Be courteous to them and also be zealous to hold them to the high level of accountability that is also required of CHL holders.
