I generally use an AR in 5.56 with 75gr or an AR in 308. A 6.8spc would definitely get the job done. I would suggest going with some kind of repeater, preferable semi-auto, but a lever action would be alright if you're efficient with it. The reason being if you fire on a large pack of hogs they're going to go every-which-a-way, include right towards you. Last guy I went hog hunting with that decided to use a bolt action wound up climbing a tree to escape the pig chasing him. I would have helped him but I was too busy dying of laughter.
