Another possibility is to simply empty the magazines and dump the ammo in some trash. All you have then are empty magazines which shouldn't be seen as dangerous. Not sure how easy it would be to empty them and throw away the ammo without someone seeing you. Mail the mags to yourself before flying back.

I guess it really depends on how much time you have.
