I don't think I would want a kid to shoot a 40 S&W pistol until after they had shot a 45 ACP. Inexperience people tend to think bigger caliber means harsher recoil and that isn't always the case. At least, my sister-in-law was like that. Refused to shoot anything bigger than 9mm for a while.
