Most any AK will do. I hear the Yugoslavian AKs have some non-standard parts, but since I don't have one, I can't confirm that. I do believe it to be from a reliable source though.

Most AKs will have a stamped receiver, which has served the world over in a reliable fashion. I wouldn't hesitate to pick one up. A friend found a deal on a Romanian AK with an aftermarket folding stock made in the US. It shot quite well and was reliable. I have a Norinco AK with a milled receiver that is stronger than the stampled sheet-metel version, but since almost all used in various wars fought around the world have a sheet metel receiver, I would have to say that you don't need the milled version. It's more expensive than the stampled sheet-metel version and is heavier too.

If it were me, I wouldn't hesitate to pickup a Romanian AK as I know they work well and cost around $350 last time I looked.
