I'd go with S&W but I'm prejudiced. Have three S&W ARs (plus other ARs) and numerous S&W pistols. As a basic starter AR, either would serve you well

In interest of full disclosure, I own Smith & Wesson stock. Opened $9.57 on 1/1/15, closed $23 on 12/31/15. ONLY thing I can thank Obama for.
