Re: Utah wait times?

BigBlueDodge - a couple of things to note about the Utah process:

First, they give Utah residents priority. They will not process non-resident permits if they have a backlog of Utah residents. So, you might be waiting a bit longer if they received a bunch of resident applications shortly before yours.

Second, if you already have a permit from another state that also performs a FBI background check, then they will issue your permit based on that, without waiting for the FBI check to come back. That is, if you sent them a copy of your other permit.

If your card was charged on 7/9, then you should expect your Utah plastic about 9/9.

Re: Utah wait times?

Utah's process is, they send your fingerprints to FBI and wait for the results of the background check before they begin working on your application. Once you pass that, then they start processing.

If you send in a copy of another state's valid CHL (that also performs an FBI background check) with your application, then they will start processing your application immediately. They still won't issue the license until their own background check comes back, but it can save you a couple of weeks wait time.

Re: Utah wait times?

When Utah was really, really backed up and having problems issuing licenses in a timely manner, they posted the approximate wait time on the Utah DPS website: http://bci.utah.gov/index.html

Now it just says "We are processing applications within 60 days as required by law."

The website is still a good place to go to get the most timely answers to your Utah questions. They update it frequently.
