Re: Instructor Renewal Class

When we had both firearms and ammo out for inspection, the trooper came by and knocked my Glock off the barrel into the water. When he fished it out and shook it off I said "Good thing it's a Glock!" You know DPS troopers have no sense of humor?

Re: Instructor Renewal Class

Crossfire was there too. We were the gang of 3 sitting in the back left hand corner of the room.

The range session was about as miserable as it gets. Ankle deep water and rain so hard that, at 45 feet, I couldn't even make out my target and was just shooting in the general direction and hoping for the best. Still managed a 248 with the revolver and 245 with the semi. They stopped us at one point and offered to let us come back another day to qualify. It's a long ways from North Texas to Austin, so I was glad we just got it over with.

A couple of interesting things from the classroom....

Hitt gave the CHL updates presentation. He said - and I quote "there is NO castle doctrine law in Texas. If you shoot, even if you are justified, you can still spend years fighting it out in civil court". WHAT?? Did we just go back in time to 2005??? I was so tired by the time he got to that, I didn't even challenge him. And neither did anyone else. I was surprised. And we wonder why CHL instructors don't all teach the same material. Depends on when you went to instructor class and what you heard. He did acknowledge that he had been with the CHL program for only 7 weeks, but really, you are teaching instructors and you don't know the law???

Another thing, and this was the one I DID challenge, but got no meaningful response. DPS is pushing HARD for all fingerprinting, photographing, and notarizing to be done by FAST and ONLY by FAST. I have a real problem with that. No one entity should have a lock on this. FAST is not convenient to everyone across the state. They are not cheap, and I don't get why DPS wants to let them monopolize this process. Saying that 60% of rolled prints are rejected makes me really wonder how bad some of the other fingerprinters are, because I KNOW we don't get that many of our prints back!
