Re: Utah or Texas ? Or.....Both ?

Sorry, 61 posts on this Utah thread, 155 on the OTHER one. This whole Utah debate is giving me a headache. Lightning, you have pain meds? Are you sharing? No, no, JUST KIDDING, really! I have my own.

I have tried really hard to stay out of this debate. I do have a somewhat vested interest in this whole thing. So, no, I am not going to make any absolute statements that you guys can twist around, and might cause damage to the Utah program, or endanger our reciprocity.

You guys need to remember - this is an open forum. You don't have to be a member to read it. Nuff said?

Re: Utah or Texas ? Or.....Both ?

If Texas law says you can't carry in Texas, I read that to mean just what it says and until you show me the statuet that says Utah permits circumvent texas law.... i will continue to believe this.
You go with that thought, Lightning. In the meantime, I'm going with mine.

So, are we done here yet? 150 some odd posts in this thread. Really, is there anything new to discuss here?

Re: Utah or Texas ? Or.....Both ?

Well, let's look at this another way. Say, you are a Utah resident. You have a Utah CFP and you happen to be visiting family here in Texas for awhile. Or, maybe your job transferred you here, and you intend yo keep your Utah permit since it is legal for you to carry here with a Utah permit. While here, you get into the worst possible situation, and are forced to defend your life with your legally carried handgun.

So the local PD, while assuring you that your situation certainly looks like a legally justified shoot, still confiscates your firearm and your Utah permit. Proper procedure is for them to notify the Utah BCI and send the permit to them, so they do.

Utah BCI then reviews your case, finds that you have been arrested but NOT convicted of a crime, and MAILS your license back to you. So, are you going to just put it away? Cause, you know the state of Texas took it from you, so that means they certainly don't want you to have it. Or are you going to take it down to the local PD and give it back to them?

Re: Utah or Texas ? Or.....Both ?

I know this is confusing because there are several instructors who teach at Cabela's. Looks like you put down a deposit for Larry Bockman's class. That is a UTAH ONLY class.
Unfortunately, he does not advertise it as a Utah class, so that creates some confusion. Here is his blurb from the Cabela's webpage:
Concealed Handgun License Certification Course
Save your valuable time and earn your Concealed Handgun License in only 5 hours and your license will be valid in 30 states including Texas. No written test, no range qualification and no renewal classes are ever required. Very limited seating and pre-registration is required by calling CHL Instructor Larry Bockman
9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m
Location: Cabela's Conference Center, Upstairs Rear of Store Behind Camping.
Crossfire Training teaches both Texas and Utah, and we only offer Utah as an addition to Texas, or as a stand-alone if you can give me a compelling reason why you cannot have or do not want a Texas CHL. We charge $125 for the Texas CHL and $25 additional if you want to add Utah.

Unfortunately, we have been confused with both Bockman, who teaches at Cabela's, and Brasuell, who gave the news interview and teaches in the Denton area. We are NOT affiliated with them.
