Thanks, ElGato! Hope you can stop by, but you might be surprised that we won't be there too long. Utah class requirements are not at all like Texas CHL requirements. Since it appears everyone in this class already has a Texas CHL, there won't be a lot of legal stuff to cover. I figure we will cover all the Utah required topics and still only be there about 2 hours.ElGato wrote:Take exit 16 off 45 South, that will be 1764 and will become Palmer, stay on it until you get there, I would guess about 5 to 7 miles, I might have signed up but I have student's set up for private lessons. I will try to stop by and say hello.

Well, I like to expect the least, and plan for the most. If I expect 6 and we have 60, then I am pleasantly surprised. We have plenty of applications and plenty of film for photos, so it will all be good.stevie_d_64 wrote: Can't believe its only about 6 people...From the look of the commentary so far on this thread, I figured we'd have to rent out the Astrodome for this thing...
Oh, and I hear they have plenty of good barbeque too!
See ya there!

OK, the GlockenHammer talked me into it. So, here's the scoop:GlockenHammer wrote: As for location, I'm willing to drive some if needed, but the restaurant jbirds1210 has in mind is probably my favorite in the whole wide world.
Sunday, Nov 19, 1:00 at the famous barbeque joint in Texas City. This shouldn't take more than 2 hours. It will be a quick review of what you already know, and the specifics you need to know about Utah. And Jbird's gonna post directions for those of us who don't know where the place is. Right, Jbird?
$50 for the class, payable on class day, includes application, photos and notary, but not fingerprints. I will provide the fingerprint cards for you to take to your local PD. These are the blue FBI cards. They don't say anything about Utah anywhere, so what you tell your fingerprinter is between you and your conscience.
I need a general idea of how many people we are talking about here, so give me a response if you are planning on coming.
Any questions?

The app you have is fine. I'll bring some for those who don't download one. I will also bring fingerprint cards and I will take your photos.
If Charles is able to come and do prints for us, then that's great. If not, you guys will have to go to your local PD to get printed. That is unless someone else knows a good printer who would like to do this for us. I will offer a free class to the person who does the prints. Any takers?

Well, looks like if we do it in Texas City, we have room for 60. There is no registration process, although I will ask for a headcount when we get closer so I bring enough applications and stuff.
Payment will be on the day of the class, cash or check only, no credit cards or live animals accepted.
You need to bring your Texas drivers license and Texas CHL. Nothing else required. No firearms, no ammo.

Mike, you are correct about reciprocity. The other advantages are:Mike1951 wrote:Just to be clear, if a person has a Texas CHL, Utah will only add MN, NH, OH, and WA. Is that correct?
Are there any other advantages to a Utah CHL that I'm overlooking?
1. Cost - the initial license is only $59
2. Renewal - there is no renewal class, and the fee to renew the license is only $10
3. There are certain reasons that you might not be eligible for a Texas CHL, but you may still be eligible for a Utah CFP, which would allow you to legally carry in Texas

You guys are killing me. I was hoping to be able to get closer to College Station, since I was gonna go down there and spend the night with my baby girl. Let me see what I can do about finding something closer. Everybody OK with that?
Glockenhammer, I know you are working with a time constraint, so I am keeping that in mind.
By the way, I got my Utah license in the mail today! Took the class Oct 14, mailed my app on the 17th (I had to find my NRA instructor card first) and received it in the mail today, Nov 6! That's 20 days, mailbox to mailbox!

OK, so if all works out with Charles and PSC, looks like we will do this on Nov 18.
FYI, You guys need to understand that a Utah CFP (Concealed Firearms Permit) class is nothing like a Texas CHL class. Utah only requires a "Firearms Familiarity" class. If everyone in this class already has a Texas CHL, we can do this in about 2 hours.
We will firm up the details as soon as I hear back from Mr. Cotton.
