What Kevin said is correct. DPS will check to see that you have "established residency". And you have done that, by purchasing a home and enrolling your kids in school. They don't care that you travel.

They will ask for additional documentation from you, so be prepared to provide them with copies of your immigration papers, and just know that it will probably take a bit longer than the average processing time for your CHL.

As long as you meet the other eligibility requirements (you know, over 21, not convicted of a felony, etc), then you should be good to go!
