Re: February Applications
Finally, Plastic in hand. First mailed to DPS the first week of February. Lived in Harris and Galveston Counties. State reps aid (Larry Taylor) was very helpful in calling the counties to enquire about what the holdup on the bg checks were. Now, I have to get the addressed changed because I just sold my house and moved into an apartment. Will move again in a few months so DPS will get some more money from me. But I didn't want to give them a reason to hold it up again to have it reprinted. I now have it in hand and can wait for the new one to come so I at least have one.

Re: February Applications
My rep is Larry Taylor. I called the League City Office and his aid helped me. I don't recall her name but she first called DPS and then called each county. I was impressed with the effort she made. She followed up and they are to overnight it to once they get it back from the printer. Who know when that will be. But she made a good effort and I think is is helping. Can you tell me which rep you are working with? Mine don't have a clue what to do but have told me if I could find someone that actually knew what to do they would call another rep's office to figure out how to be a better help in the future

Re: February Applications
Application sent in the first week of Feb. Pin received mid March. Contacted DPS after about 90 days. No Help. BG check Harris County and Galveston County not in. Contacted state rep. One of his aids called DPS. Told aid waiting on BG check. Aid called each county and asked were the BG check was. Aid called me and needed my application number to follow up. Gave her my number. She was on vacation for about two weeks. I had called DPS and was told because I had be arrested in 1973 for littering (through water balloon at rival high school on Halloween night) that they could take up to 180 days to complete it. Aid came off vacation. I informed of DPSs comments two days ago. She called me this morning and told my CHL was done and was suppose to be sent to me overnight. Web site still says processing application. I will wait and see when it gets here. Working with my state rep appears to have helped. But they have to be committed to call the counties to put the pressure on them.

Re: February Applications
Called DPS today and was told all is in and the are finishing it. Call back in two weeks to see if it is done. I don't know if calling my state rep helped or if it finally just came thru but this is only about a week since I called my rep. I live in Galveston county and work in Harris County. So these are finally starting to come through.

Re: February Applications
Don't recall the exact dates but sent in the fully completed application around the 2nd of Feb. Money came out of my account Feb 14. Called approximately March 10th because I had not even received my pin yet. Got letter with Pin three days later. Checked Web site and saw Application Processing. Waited until May 13 - 60 days since they said I was entered into the system to call and see what the hang up is. Told background checks from Harris and Galveston counties have not come back yet. Same day called Larry Taylor's office (Texas House of Representatives) and spoke with one of his aids. She immediately called DPS. They told her same story - no background checks. She then called each county and asked why so long. She didn't have my application # so they said they couldn't look it up. She called me back and I gave her my application # this morning and she is going to call each county and ask why it has not been sent back. I will post if this makes any progress in the completion of the application. If so the new attack to solve this problem is to jump on DPS then get your rep to jump on the counties as this appears to be one of the biggest hold up in the process.
