Thanks Kevin (and Lindy) for the good info. I had my terms mixed up. Having to disarm myself in the car with a Smart Carry has been a pain. I have yet to find a fluid method of pulling out my pistol and securing it. My car is lower to the ground than the average car and I'm paranoid someone will see in. I'm glad that's one less place I'll have to do that.KBCraig wrote:It's not a Federal Reserve Bank. But, since this is a federal reserve bank do federal rules apply?
There are no federal rules against firearms in banks. When a bank has "Federal" or "National" in its name, that means it's insured by FDIC. Insurance backing is the only thing "federal" or "national" about such banks; they're still private property.

USAA Federal Reserve Bank in San Antonio.
But, since this is a federal reserve bank do federal rules apply? And actually, the bank isn't posted properly under Texas law. There's a "No firearms permitted on USAA property" with a ghostbusters sign at each enterance, and the old parking lot that has since been converted into a garden area.
Also, the SAXET Gun Show at the airport convention center is always posted. Seems kind of dumb to me to not allow concealed carry at a GUN show.

I guess what I was really asking was is there a reason they have to post, or are they just being anti? I was wondering if for some reason all mail centers would have to disallow firearms, or just USPS. I take it posting a sign was their personal decision.TxFire wrote:Well UPS can do the same if they want to exclude CHL's. That is their right.

I was at a UPS distribution center today mailing some packages and noticed they had posted completely legal 30.06 sings in English and Spanish. Is it normal for other mail carriers to post 30.06 signs? I know carrying in a post office isn't allowed, but why does UPS think they can do the same?
This was at the UPS Store (and distribution center) near Bandera and Eckhert in San Antonio.

I would be in favor of something like this, but I'm wondering how it would be implemented. It couldn't be one long thread of businesses (like this one) because you couldn't organize it or confirm other's obersavtions easily. It sounds like you'd need someone to write code that'd be able to do those two things. Having one person manually in charge of updating the list would be way too much work.
You might be able to work with the forum software as it is. What about creating another forum with all major texas cities or geographical areas as categories. Each post in the forums would be titled with the business that prohibits licensed concealed handguns. That way it'd be easy for people to follow up to other posts, and they'd automatically be dated. For example, in the Houston forum you might find a post that says "Joe's Jewelry Store at Main St and 1st St". The post would then contain details about the 30.06 sign, such as if it was compliant.
Just throwing out ideas.
