I thought most of the people associated with the government were already zombies.gigag04 wrote:(Reply as serious as the question)

Print out the locations of ammo and gun manufacturers. Assuming the virus hits fast you should have more than you could shoot in a life time. Locations of military installations would also be good to know.equin wrote:Y'all are forgetting that in a zombie apocalypse, ammo manufacturing will cease. Whatever ammo you use, you most likely won't be able to replace. Any of the survivors will most assuredly raid and scavenge whatever ammo remains on the shelves. And even if you've hoarded a bunch in the pre-zombie world, sooner or later your massive supply will eventually become depleted. If you plan on surviving long term, you're going to want to conserve your ammo for as long and for as many years as possible. Not to mention, spare parts production for firearms will most likely also cease in a zombie-like apocalypse if your gun/rifle breaks down.
I'm guessing that weapons that can be made on the go with renewable resources, such as bamboo, wood, stone, trade points, etc., will likely be used the most often, while firearms' use will be conserved for those desperate, no-other-choice type moments. Probably more use will be made of traps, fire, make-shift bombs and other implements of defense and attack that won't rely so much on ever depleting ammo stores to help keep the zombie hordes at bay. I'm thinking fire-pit moat defenses, tiger-trap holes in the ground and things of that nature which, although they may not necessarily kill the zombie, they'll effectively demobilize it and keep it from reaching your bunker/fort.

I would avoid the full auto option. Assuming you must achieve a head shot, the only thing full auto is going to do is ensure that the zombies that eat you are full of holes.equin wrote:There was a similar thread like this over on the Beretta forum.
Anyway, I guess it depends on the kind of "zombie attack" there is. If it's a mass horde of brain-eating zombies heading towards you and your small group of desperate survivors, then any kind of full-auto rifles and as much ammo for it you can find!
If it's the occasional zombie you'd stumble upon as you scavenge for food and supplies in the aftermath of the zombie apocalypse, then a firearm, or any firearm, although highly useful, would probably be the weapon I'd least likely use so as to save as much ammo as possible. Instead, I'd use a crossbow, bow and arrow and one of those medieval halbert spears as much as possible. With a bow and arrow, you could easily make such a weapon, and since wood is a renewable source, you could continue to make arrows as you lose or break them in the skulls of the undead. Of course, a big-a$$ knife, a machete, a battle-axe and other flesh and bone cutting implements of medieval warfare would also be excellent options for those close-encounters without having to waste your precious but dwindling ammo supply.
