Nothing personal. I also used to feel that way when I took CPE classes before I semi-retired.
It's same issue I have with public education - teaching to the bottom of the class instead of the middle.
Students should be told when they sign up for a class that they will need to demonstrate that they are proficient with a fire arm. If they aren't they should take some classes prior to the CHL class.
Of course this is simply MHO.
