I haven't bought or sold a vehicle in a private sale since moving to Texas, but did so a number of times in NOLA over the years. There you simply met the other party at a title transfer company. In a matter of a few minutes everything was legally transferred and registered with the state. They also verified that the purchasing party left with a clean title (any loans against the vehicle had to be paid on the spot by the seller before the transfer was completed). Does Texas not have a similar system?
