Seems like there has been a sudden "about face" in Congress on the bill to allow concealed carry firearms in the National Parks. An amednment was stuck on the Credit Card reform to allow this and was easily passed. This could be voted in by the end of this week!! The article hits on something that I've been reading about, in that Congress right now is very "pro-gun ownership". This is why Obama is not pushing the Assault Weapons Ban because he doesn't have enough votes in Congress to push it through because of the pro-gun feeling in Congress. And now this article seems to reinforce it.

I'm not sure what happend but I got a feeling that it started with N.R.A :)
Don't bet on it. What happened was that a few Blue Dog democrats succeeded in convincing the majority leadership that they would not vote for the Credit Card bill - which the Obama administration really wants - if it did not include the parks carry amendment. Without the support of those Blue Dog democrats, the bill would have gone down to defeat, and it would have set Obama's credit card plans back quite a bit. Democratic leadership could not let that happen, and so they conceded the point.

Unfortunately, it isn't a done deal. The House still has to pass their version, and it is nowhere near certain that it will contain a parks carry amendment. If it doesn't, you can bet that the first thing cut from the Senate version in order to reconcile the two versions before sending it to Obama's desk for signature will be to remove the parks carry amendment.

It is too soon to call this any kind of a victory.

Wrong the bill PASSED on the House and will be signed by Zero on Friday.
