Re: So, you trust your centerfire semi-auto EXPLICITLY?
By the way, I shot a GSSF match the day following the 1000 round test. Shooting 1000 rounds in a day doesn't seem to have hurt my shooting skills much, I knocked over 30 seconds off my previous best score and had fewer penalties than ever before.

Re: So, you trust your centerfire semi-auto EXPLICITLY?
If the only thing that's keeping you away is magazine count, let me know and I'll bring a couple to the match for you to use.

Re: So, you trust your centerfire semi-auto EXPLICITLY?
How often do you go to the range and not have fun? Now, your event does sound like fun, but I am not one that needs to run through a case of ammo (in this manner) to prove a point...
But I do hope you guys and gals do have fun at this thing...

I doubt any points will be proven, it might make some people think.
As far as taking mechanical devices to the brink of failure and beyond--I think that's a bit melodramatic. Jams/failures happen in normal usage. It's not like we're trying to get people to break their guns or get them to fail in the catastrophic sense. I promise that anyone who shows up with a firearm of vintage or quality likely to be taken beyond the brink of failure (in the catastrophic sense) by the rigors of the match will not be allowed to participate. However, any decent quality gun made in modern times should be capable of completing this course without any parts breakage. Whether it has a jam is another story, both in terms of the sense and severity of the failure.
Umm... That's kind of the point.I've ... never seen daily round counts that high.

Explicitly \Ex*plic"it*ly\, adv.
In an explicit manner; clearly; plainly; without disguise or
reservation of meaning; not by inference or implication; as,
he explicitly avows his intention.
So, you trust** your centerfire semi-auto?
**And when you say trust, you definitely say it without any reservation of meaning, right?
Thought it was a bit less cumbersome the way I originally said it.

Re: So, you trust your centerfire semi-auto EXPLICITLY?
So, at what point, in your opinion, does it stop being practice or training and start being just dumping ammo? After 200 rounds? 400? 600?Throwin' a case of ammo downrange during the course of several hours is not training...or practice...

I must admit that it's been amusing to find that people seem to be genuinely offended by the idea of this match. Maybe there are a lot of people who define a range trip as a box of ammo and a two way drive, but this is only between 2 & 3 times the amount of ammo that I would burn in one of my longer range sessions. And in this case, instead of shooting it in one long session, it will be shot in 20 stages of 50 rounds each over the course of an entire day. The rounds will not be scored but they will be shot at steel targets so they are not only aimed shots but here will also be feedback for hits. No one is going to be simply dumping rounds into the berm.
Maybe that's not how everyone practices or trains, but it's more than just a little pompous to state categorically that it's "not training or practice". Would I recommend it as a regular practice regimen? No, of course not. But as a one time thing, it's not going to hurt anyone's shooting ability anymore than running a marathon makes someone a poorer runner.
Besides, as I said earlier I don't spend all my time at the range practicing or training and yet I've never wasted a single second spent at a shooting range.

We'll see what the results look like. Having seen the results from similar matches held in the past, I think that they will be a surprise to some. Based on past results it's not nearly as common to finish such a match malfunction free as many believe.
I have a perfect solution. For those who are offended at the idea...don't enter the match.

Re: So, you trust your centerfire semi-auto EXPLICITLY?
All the ones in my area are selling the WWB 100 packs for $15.98.1000 rnds 9mm for $160? which walmart is this?
Ok, here's another way to look at it.Blasting away in this manner proves absolutely nothing in my book...
How'd you like to shoot all day for free at steel targets, some of them reactive and/or moving targets?
The way I see it, I've never wasted a second of time at a shooting range, and when I can shoot for only the cost of ammunition that's even better. Some might not see it that way...
I'm taking my nightstand gun to the match. I think it will be a worthwhile day at the range--that comes with some bragging rights and also a chance to collect some interesting information at the same time.

Re: So, you trust your centerfire semi-auto EXPLICITLY?
Interesting idea. I'll broach it with DNS.JKS, a pity there is not an ammo sponsor. Have any of you 3 (DNS, you or LM) sought an ammo sponsor?
I doubt we can get something going for this year, but I'd like to see this become an annual event. I'll see about doing a nice writeup for it and circulating it to some ammo companies to see if they're interested.
I remember thinking something similar when I watched it. Even if they didn't cut out anything of import, I was still VERY disappointed that they edited the clip. It wasn't so long that it needed cuts in the middle and I thought that really detracted from the point of the exercise....believe I saw a spot where he had a malfunction and it was edited...

Re: So, you trust your centerfire semi-auto EXPLICITLY?
You can still buy 1000 rounds of 9mm for about $160 at Wal-Mart. And, as I said, reloads are not prohibited, just not considered ideal for the purposes of the match. Also, in one sense the match is a good deal for the entrants. There will be no range fees--everyone shoots for free.Otherwise, it'll be just a rich boys' game.
All guns will finish the match unless they are disqualified for having too many malfunctions or for safety concerns. In the interest of time, we can't allow a gun to repeatedly malfunction or we'll be there for days trying to get the match finished. 10 malfunctions on a single stage or 50 for the match and you're out. Otherwise, everyone continues to the end and all malfunctions are scored.
Malfunction scoring will be descriptive, not diagnostic. In other words, the scoresheet will say WHAT happened (what KIND of malfunction) but we're not going to try to figure out WHY it happened. That's too complicated and time consuming in the middle of the match as well as too subjective.
Kenny? Perhaps Todd.

Re: So, you trust your centerfire semi-auto EXPLICITLY?
Reloads are not prohibited, but the use of factory ammunition is encouraged. Since this is about handgun reliability the point is to try to reduce the number of other variables involved.

So, you trust your centerfire semi-auto EXPLICITLY?
If you live in the DFW, TX area, this is your chance to prove it!
http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=312764
This an updated version of the 1911 vs Glock grudge matches that is open to all brands of centerfire semi-autos.
To make a long story short, you show up with your gun, about 8 magazines (at least 7 rounds capacity each) and 1000 rounds of ammunition. The "match" scoring is recording malfunctions.
Once the shooting starts, no one is allowed to service their firearms in ANY way.
Sound interesting? There are still some open spots on the roster, read the thread in the link to see if you can qualify.
