I was watching an episode of Deadliest Warrior on TV last season and they had a "former" Spetznats (sp?) soldier but his holster was extremely ingenious. Basically they would carry a pistol without one in the chamber and to unholster the firearm they push down on the gun and it pushes through the bottom of the holster (no ideo how it worked) cocking the gun as it was pushed down and out. Pretty ingenious if you ask me not sure if it would be faster than drawing upwards though.
