Should I go ahead and buy a Glock or Smith & Wesson M&P or save my money and buy the Sig. Or buy the Glock or S&W now and save the money latter and buy a Sig? :txflag:
Hey gguess66, what did you end up with? I found this thread while searching the forum on the P229. I'm looking to buy my last carry weapon, and don't mind spending the money for the Sig if it is worth it. I'm considering one other option which would be a 1911 with a 4" barrel.

that don't sound good.... bad report from the doctor?

I go to a gun shop that has the pistol(s) I'm looking for. When I'm handling the pistol, I pick it up with my strong hand, settle it into a "shooting" grip, and then, while still holding the pistol low, I focus my eyes on a distant point; that's my "target."

I then close my eyes, and raise the pistol to "shooting" position, until it "feels" as if it's aimed at my "target." Then I open my eyes, and look at the sights - if the pistol actually fits me well, it should be aimed in darned close to where it felt like it was aimed.

Despite their build quality, virtually all SIGS (except the P210) fail this test miserably in my hand . . . and most S&Ws fare badly, too, as do Rugers. On the other hand, 1911s, most Glocks, and the BHP do well.

Of course, the pistol that fits me may not fit you . . . but I suggest you try this method out and see if it works; it just may help you pick the pistol you'll be most happy with.

I use the exact same method as HankB in checking for "fit" with most all firearms. Actually, I read about it several years ago for deterrmining fit of sporting shot guns when I got interested in sporting clays and dove hunting. The whole concept just seemed to carry over to pistols and rifles as well. Works for me.
