I was sort of surprised when they actually advocated having a gun in ones home. Of coarse there were the standard, caveats about getting training, checking with the local police department (Yeah, sure thing )mr surveyor wrote:and the Fox News (Sunday morning "Fox and Friends" show) follow up discussion one week later is almost reminicient of the advice given to young women in the 1970's when attacked by rapists. The basics from the wonderful advisor on Fox ... just stay calm and give them whatever they want..... don't be a hero and attempt to fight back... be patient and try to find a second when they aren't watching and make your escape... and on and on... even to the point of answering the "blonde" question about locking yourself in the bathroom. I just can not believe that there are law enforcement "professionals" that would even suggest that a locked bathroom (in probably 95% of homes would be a definite dead end with absolutely NO escape route) would deter a person bold enough to breach your home's first line of defense, being a closed/locked outer door.
One question was posed (very timidly) about a homeowner being armed, and the answer was a rather terse maybe, but probably not advisable because of the greater danger of the homeowner shooting him/her self. This has still got to be an issue of local environment and upbringing. It seems that the ONLY mindset that is promoted on any media outlet is the big city elitist mentality. Almost the same as the political mindset of not fighting back against an enemy because we may upset them more.
yep, the "call your local law enforcement to get proper training" advice is what seems to counter the advice that owning a gun is appropriate. It's the big city police chief opinion that homeowners should NOT have guns that seems to pervade. That is possibly a perception created by an oversealous anti gun media though. I just think the "run and hide crowd" has a much more willing accomplice in the media than the "defend yourself crowd". Most of these people really believe that it is the duty of their local police department to "protect" them from these type occurances.
