My brother, on the other hand, wasn't ready until he was a teen ager. Dad didn't feel like he was....I guess mature enough to handle the responsibility until he got older. IMO, It's up to you to determine whether he's ready or not.

I think it depends on the kid. Some will be ready at 3....Others will not. My Dad gave me a Daisy BB gun when I was 3 and by the time I was 5 I had my own single shot .410 and was dove hunting with my Dad and his friends. Dad was VERY strict on gun safety and the rules were drilled into me from the very beginning.
