Re: June 2009 Applications

For those keeping score, my wife's plastic arrived yesterday. My son-in-law and I were working on a "honey do" painting project after work yesterday. My wife walked out of the house to go somewhere. I asked her if she was armed. She said "No, I'm just going to Stephaine's. I won't need a gun to go 5 miles."

As you can see, I still have some work to do, but the gubmint part is done. All I have to do is convince her that she needs to carry all the time. (Wow, I've probably got my work cut out for myself!) :txflag:

Re: June 2009 Applications

I'm just glad you didn't have to post the mailbox sitting pics agian. I am the first one home, so I guess it would be me sitting by the mailbox for her! "rlol"

She said "Thanks! Now get back to the mailbox!"

But I always get the last word on my wife. I replied "Yes dear!"

Good thing I have wireless! :smilelol5: "rlol" :txflag:

I will let her know it's time to take some action. She doesn't have much time to call during the day, but she can get an e-mail sent today to DPS and state rep. I see that Joe's app went in Aug 8 and he had the plastic on Oct 10, 60 or 61 days. Her fingerprints went in also on Aug 8 and nothing has happened yet. I will get the ball rolling. I might even draft an e-mail for her. Thanks all! :txflag:
After all that, we sat down this evening to watch some TV. I asked my wife when the last time she checked her status was. She said it had been three or four days. I asked "why don't you check it." She said "it won't change on the weekend." In about 10 minutes she was squealing and waving her arms. Without her checking her status everyday (like I did!), we don't know when the status changed, but she should look forward to getting the plastic in the mailbox some this week. I'm very proud and excited for her. It has been a long journey to get the license and look forward to being able to "double up" on protection when we are out together. And, more importantly, she can now carry for her own protection. :txflag:

Re: June 2009 Applications

My wife's app was sent on June 20, fingerprints redone and mailed on August 8. Her status is still on "processing app." How much time since the fingerprints were done (a few days over 60 days now) before e-mails or phone calls questioning the status?

I have seen posts from forum members that got some quick action by contacting their state rep/senator. I had a mix-up on the renewal on my drivers license this summer. After some buck passing by a local city and the DPS saying it was the other's fault, I contacted my state rep. The next morning I had 2 phone calls from the DPS saying that all had been straightened out and my license was out for printing and would be in the mail in just a couple of days.

The question is should she start contacting the DPS now, or wait for another 20 or so days (90 days from resubmitting the fingerprints)?

Re: June 2009 Applications

Sarge, it doens't take long to "walk normal" when carrying. It took me a while to get used to carrying. I had only been around handguns for a short time before I got my CHL and it only took a month to get comfortable with concealed carry. And to realize that no one was looking for a gun! :txflag:

My wife sent an e-mail to the DPS last evening after I posted above. To my surprise, the DPS replied today with her PIN. She checked her status and is processing application. So we wait...

joe817 wrote:MIke, yes her PIN can be requested via email. By all means go ahead and do that, the sooner the better. I would have thought that one would already have been issued to her, since her prints were rejected, and a file started.

When will she get her license is anyone's guess. My best guess would be 6-8 weeks, barring any other glitches, mainly in the background check area. But note that with the new and improved procedures implemented in the beginning of Sept. at HQ it might be much sooner than that. Gads, that sounds like a politician talking, doesn't it? "rlol"
Joe, are you running for office?? LOL! I have tried to stay out of her CHL business because she wanted to do it. So, after helping her with the application, showing her how to operate her pistol, taking her to the range for practice, acompanying her at the 10 (long!) hours of class/range time and mailing her app, she didn't want anymore help! That, my friends, is why there is no PIN number yet! "rlol"

Like I said, it has been about 6 weeks since we sent the prints off again. She is a teacher and has already had a background check or 2 and fingerprints submitted, so I don't believe there should be any more problems, other than waiting a while longer. I will see if I can suggest that she e-mail for her PIN tonight. It would be nice to see what is going on with her app. As The Annoyed Man refers to "She Who Must Be Obeyed!"

Re: June 2009 Applications

My wife took her CHL class on June 20. I mailed the packet for her on June 22. DPS rejected her fingerprints August 8, I re-sent the second set of prints on August 10. She doesn't have time to call and check status during the day and she did not receive a PIN (I didn't look at the packet from DPS for the PIN). Can she request a PIN by e-mail?

Also, with having to resubmit the fingerprints, how much longer before she gets her plastic? A best guess would help. I am probably more anxious than she is, but she did ask me when I thought she might get her card. It has been about 6 weeks since the second set of prints was submitted.

Re: June 2009 Applications

Thanks Joe. It may have been on the application and we never saw it. I may have the wife send an e-mail to the DPS and see if she can get it that way.

Re: June 2009 Applications

My wife took her class on June 20, 2009 and I mailed the app for her on June 22. She applied and paid the DPS online. On August 6, she got a letter saying the fingerprints had been rejected. I e-mailed her instructor and he said just about everyone from that class had their fingerprints rejected. The guy that does the fingerprints lives just a few minutes away from us and he came over last evening and did her prints again. I put them back in the mail this morning (with delivery notice). The fingerprint guy said he has been doing CHL prints since 1996 and had less than 1% rejected until now.

I was surprised, however, that it has only taken about 5 weeks to get prints rejected. I exepcted that if this were to happen, it would have been in September. Maybe they are getting quicker at DPS.

A question though, guys or ladies that applied online have said that the PIN number was in the packet that DPS sends back. Where is the PIN in the packet? My wife says there wasn't a PIN in the packet, I say that there should have been.
