Your cut off shirt will make a lift & draw pretty easy.
I can see standing over someone on a bench press while you spot them being a small issue. A little elastic will take care of that.
Keep it loose enough to lift w/o binding for your draw & you should do fine.
rather than altering/sewing a belly band, try a Kangaroo system (same idea, just no need for SEWING :headscratch )

I've actually picked up one of each to try out and see which I like better. Of course, if I ever actually start exercising again they'll come in VERY handy :anamatedbanana
