Of course the bayo is just for show.
Think of it as an aiming device; jab it in about an inch below where you want to hit, then fire.

I consider the bayonet on my M44 to be a last-ditch boar spear for hog hunting.

In the house, it's a Mossberg 835 de-plugged. When I go out to the land it's the Norinco copy of the Ithaca 37 riot model. I'm not too concerned about capacity with either; if five shots of 00, or four 00 and one slug don't slow down a threat enough for me to stuff a couple more in, I should have already been running.
