I picked up an Armalite AR-10 the day before Sandy Hook happened for $1500 - I love this rifle, haven't been able to try shooting beyond 50yds yet, but is accurate and easy to get back on target when not shooting from a rest. I picked the .308 caliber for a variety of uses from medium to large game and, if the need arises, long range.
I have a 1.25-4x40 scope on it, would like to get a 3-9 or 5-20x50 scope at some point.
The only gotcha is most of the AR-10 rifle parts are not interchangable between different manufacturers - I can't use PMag's so I am stuck with only Armalite mags, but that was my choice after looking into it.
