Re: April 2009 Applications

dicion - "rlol"

You should print that out, frame it, and send it to same address that the CHL applications go to.

Put USA1's name down on the return address, though..... :biggrinjester:

Re: April 2009 Applications

Well, I did a shortened version of the Wally Walk last night. No pictures, sorry, Mrs. Chip had stomach issues and didn't go along. I did spend about half an hour there, and looked at ammo (that part didn't take very long!). I ended up not buying anything, so I decided to make up for that by also doing a Lowes Walk, a Specs Walk, and a Kroger Walk. Went just fine - didn't get the feeling that everyone was looking at me or anything. It's a great tradition, though, an excellent idea to have something like this to get folks used to carrying!

Best of luck to all those still waiting - may your wait be short and your Wally Walk uneventful!

Re: April 2009 Applications

Fortunately I didn't get pulled over on the way home today.... checked the mailbox.... and there it was!

I knew what to expect, since Mrs. Chip's plastic arrived last month, but it was still kind of anticlimactic - the heavens didn't open or anything - but still, plastic in hand! Next stop..... WALLY WORLD! :chldancing

Re: April 2009 Applications

Well, congrats, USA1! What will you do with all the free time you have now that you're not checking your status online every 20 minutes? "rlol"

Now I want to leave work early to see if mine has come in. :waiting:

USA1 wrote:anything in your mailbox today ?
Bills, ads, and a letter from the IRS :eek6 Nothing that I wanted, though.

It was REALLY tempting to say "yeah, mine came in, yours must have gotten lost in the mail!" :evil2:

Tomorrow's the day. Of course, that's what I said yesterday..... :grumble

Re: April 2009 Applications

Thanks, and congrats right back to you!

I ordered a holster in May, it should be here sometime this week as well. All this time I've been expecting the holster to show up before the license - now it looks like a race.

Check my .sig for another comparison. My wife and I took the class together, I sent the applications in at the same time, we both went to "Processing Application" on the same day.... the Harris County bg check is the only difference.

I've been told that the DPS office in Austin received my completed bg check this past Monday, though, and that they'd be sending it to print on Tuesday, so hopefully the waiting game is almost over.

Re: April 2009 Applications

Just got off the phone with a technician at DPS - both my background checks (Harris County and Montgomery County) are complete. According to this calculator, that's 105 days since DPS received my application (I'm using April 6 for the receipt date, the check cleared the bank on April 9). :anamatedbanana

Then the technician told me that it's another 2-4 weeks before I receive the card. :banghead: I guess she was talking about the time it takes to decide whether they'll accept everything and print the card. Maybe we can push that along a little faster....

Re: April 2009 Applications

He's been very assertive about calling DPS, state reps, etc. Maybe that worked out to help!

Re: April 2009 Applications

Looks like a few march folks are starting to get theirs approved
I sent my wife's application in on 4/1, status changed to "Processing Application" on 5/18, she received plastic on 6/19. Harris County wasn't involved in her application.

Since I have to get a bg check from Harris County, I'm not expecting to see anything until late August at the very earliest.

When a private company - one charged with making a profit - runs into a backlog like this, they ramp up production so that they can bring in more cash. Your state government has your cash already, and it's not like anyone in DPS is going to lose a job for poor service. The frustrating part is that they are taking all the extra income they're getting from the increase in CHL applications and diverting it to other programs. Like other folks have said..... why would anyone want this kind of performance to extend to your health care programs???????

Re: April 2009 Applications

I couldn't stand it.... called DPS to find out why, if we submitted paperwork on the same day, she has plastic and I'm still "Processing".

They're waiting on a Harris County background check for me.... not because I have LIVED there in the past five years, but because I have WORKED there in the past five years. :mad5 :mad5 :mad5

So I'm not going to bother checking status for the next couple of months. :cryin

Re: April 2009 Applications

Mrs. Chip's plastic came in the mail today.... the application package was mailed to DPS 4/1/2009. :anamatedbanana So that's 79 days for her. Me? Still "Processing Application". :totap: We've lived in the same places at the same times for more than 20 years now, and our applications were mailed at the same time from the same post office. They went to "processing application" on the same day (5/18), so I'm at a loss to explain the difference.

I wonder if there's some secret reason why it's quicker to process women's applications. Maybe they are inherently more trustworthy, or DPS doesn't have to check status of child support payments or something. Of course, we know that Latina women are wiser than white men..... :rolll

Re: April 2009 Applications

I think this is the first April 2009 completion! PIN received/application processing on May 18, and today I see the wonderful message "Application Completed - license issued or certificate active". I sent in the paperwork on April 1. This is for Montgomery County.

Unfortunately, it's my wife's CHL, not mine. :banghead: Mine went in on the same day but still shows "Processing Application". She's over there laughing at me right now.

I have no idea when it went active. I check mine daily, this is the first time I've checked hers in a couple of weeks. Proof again that a watched pot never boils. :headscratch
